Aging dilemma

Lately, I’ve been noticing the wrinkles around my eyes and forehead. I’m in my early 40s but have never really been too worried about my age because everyone always tells me how young I look (probably due to the fact that I’m small boned and not very tall). Well, I think the age may be starting to catch up. When did the lines around my eyes start lasting even after I stopped smiling? My 8-year old daughter has also mentioned that I have wrinkles but she also noticed another mom who is “even more wrinkly than you are.” Gee, thanks.

I’m not ready in any way to go under the knife and I have yet to try Botox, but I just read a piece entitled “The Pursuit of Beauty isn’t always pretty” on MSNBC that shows pics of certain celebs when they were younger and what they look like now. A plastic surgeon then offers his comments on what they have (or haven’t had done). The gist behind the article is that sometimes when you start trying to erase everything you end up looking like a freak instead of a 25-year old.

Who’s aging gracefully according to the piece? Well, Susan Sarandon for one, George Clooney, Diane Keaton and Tina Turner. Maybe they take very good care of themselves but they still look like who they were 20 years ago. Who’s in trouble? Priscilla Presley, for one, has completely lost her natural beauty through many, many, ill-advised procedures.

It made me think that it’s not so bad to keep what you’ve got. I’d rather have some wrinkles than end up with a face devoid of all emotion. That’s just weird.
